The Client
JLisette Art is the studio of Janine Lisette McCray-Booker, a Long Island painter who worked as a nurse for years and began painting after the loss of her daughter. Her bold acrylic portraits celebrate feminine strength and resilience, and her first collection of 35 original paintings includes portraits of bald women. She also paints custom portraits.
Her work has been exhibited on Long Island, including a Women's History Month event at the Josetta and Julius Pearse African American Museum of Nassau County, and her art was chosen for the cover of a book from academic publisher Bloomsbury. She also writes and illustrates the Alicia children's book series and founded Healing Art Together, a community built around the idea that creativity heals.
The Problem
Janine's paintings carry a deeply personal story, so the site had to tell that story with care while showing the artwork large and in full color.
It also had to work as a store. Visitors needed to buy prints from the first collection, greeting cards, postcards, journals and affirmation prints, and find her children's books, press coverage and contact details easily.
What We Did
We built a gallery-led site on WordPress and WooCommerce. The homepage opens on a single painting beside her tagline about turning pain into beauty, then moves through her story, the Bloomsbury book cover, featured products, testimonials, and the Alicia books with links to buy them on Amazon.
The Artwork page presents key paintings, each with a short description and a link to shop the print. The shop holds the full catalog with sorting options, including prints of all 35 paintings and the Put Your Pink On breast cancer awareness line of cards, postcards, journals and affirmation prints. A Media/Press page collects newspaper coverage and an exhibition press release, and a short contact form handles inquiries.
The Result
Visitors can read the story behind the work, browse all 35 prints from the first collection, and buy prints, cards and journals online. Press coverage, the Bloomsbury cover and testimonials sit alongside the paintings, giving first-time visitors context for the artist behind them.
Janine's paintings, books, awareness collection and community work now live under one name on one site.
